Additional information:The timeline of a successful wedding
“We were really lucky in that we rarely argued through planning our wedding – however that’s not to say that we didn’t get tired and snappy! Wedding planning is all about team work. We were both working full time jobs with long hours as well as trying to sort out a wedding, which was very stressful to do all at the same time, so it helped that we both knew when the ‘team’ had had enough for that particular day. To take a ‘wedding free’ day, was really helpful – it meant that we could recharge, refocus and re-evaluate what we was important for us our day, without a conversation that was going round in circles.

Also, having a time plan really helped to make us aware that not everything had to be done all on the same day. I downloaded a free app called Wedding UK – which even though was American – it did give a really good general idea of times, plus it was readily available on my phone!

A tip that we were given by friends was of the ‘save a date’ invitations. Our friends had been sent a ‘save the date’ and had kept the whole day free, however when the invitation came through they realised that they were only invited to the evening and not the full day. It highlighted to us the importance to let people know in advance what they were invited to (all day or evening invitation) and what arrangements they would need to make – i.e. – babysitters, transport, etc.

It is also worth pointing out that keeping the younger guests in our wedding party happy meant that their parents were also happy, which made everyone happy! We made sure that the parents were asked in advance if they needed high chairs, if their child would like the food menu we had chosen for them, if they had allergies, etc. We also had the older children in our party – boys who were aged between 8-11 years old – given a ‘mini adult meal’ rather than a ‘childrens meal’. It might sound silly, but it meant minimal whinging of why they were classed as a ‘baby’ having a childrens meal.

How was it dealing with the various suppliers? any tips you’d pass on to other couples planning a wedding?
We had a rule of ‘if we like them we would go with them’ and a friend had also said, if you like the product they offer and the price is right then just book it otherwise you will always be comparing and end up wasting your own time.

However, above all of these tips and advice, the most import thing to remember is to go with what you want. On the day we didn’t want to see something that we thought was a waste of money, or see something that no one was using or that no one was enjoying – it’s your day.
